Cicely, Sweet (Myrrhis odorata)
Cicely, Sweet – Myrrhis odorata
Cicely, Sweet – Myrrhis odorata is a hardy perennial with fern like lacy foliage. White flowers in umbels from Spring to early Summer. An early nectar plant so good for pollinators too.
It likes rich well drained soil in a sunny or partially shaded situation.
A culinary plant that can add flavour to many dishes. Use the leaves and boiled roots for an aniseed flavour in salads. The root can be used to make wine. The seeds, both ripe and unripe can also be eaten. Add leaves to stewed fruit to remove acidity.
