Foxglove – Digitalis purpurea

Foxglove – Digitalis purpurea is a short lived perennial, grown as a biennial. A native plant with beautiful spires of purple/pink shaded (occasionally white) bell flowers. Particularly attractive to bees. A traditional cottage garden plant. They combine beautifully with shrubs and other herbaceous plants.

Will grow happily in a wooded or shady site but will tolerate most aspects.

Medicinal properties. Digitalin comes from leaves to treat heart complaints. However, DO NOT TRY THIS YOURSELF. Please leave this to a trained medicinal herbalist as this plant is poisonous.
