Garlic – Allium sativum is the popular culinary bulb. A hardy perennial grown as an annual. A bulb encased in a white paper layer with straight green leaves
Plant in a sunny site in light soil.
Harvest the bulbs when the leaves die back. Alternatively you can also harvest the leaves as you would chives. A very pungent but valuable herb it can be added to many dishes.
Garlic is a powerful antiseptic and is also said to lower blood pressure and perhaps reduce cholesterol levels.
