Marsh Mallow – Althaea officinalis is a native plant with soft velvety grey green leaves and delicate pink flowers. Grows wild in marshes and wet meadows.
The roots also have soothing medicinal properties. They can be made into the original marshmallow lozenge to treat coughs and sore throats. An ancient herb used by the Egyptians. In fact the name, Althaea, comes from the Greek ‘altho’ to cure.
