Salvia Merlin’s Magenta

Salvia Merlin’s Magenta

Salvia Merlin’s Magenta was locally known under a different name and was originally bred in Norfolk. We have been very kindly given this plant to rename and propagate by a friend of the original breeder.  The list of names we came up with was extensive  but we settled on naming it after something we loved, was gorgeous and was very memorable so why not name it after our beloved border collie and nursery companion.  Merlin sadly passed away in 2011 from cancer. He was perhaps more ‘saliva’ that ‘salvia’, but he did have presence, gave us joy and stood out from the crowd, just like this Salvia.

We may be biased but we adore this plant. We have been growing it through 2018 and we are delighted to say it will be available from 2019.

It is a delicate variety with amazing magenta flowers. Just like others, it has a strong fruity scent and prefers sun, a sheltered spot and a well drained soil.
