Mint Plants

The Spicata group (spearmint scent) contain the classic mints for new potatoes, peas, mint sauce etc and are often referred to as Garden Mint. We grow the classic Spearmint, Tashkent Mint and Moroccan Mint. The latter is also well known for mint tea and its bushy, compact growth is perfect for a large pot.  The Piperita group (peppermint scent) are stronger tasting such as Chocolate, Swiss, Black or After Eight for a deeper richer mint sauce or in peppermint tea. This is most probably the best group to choose for medicinal purposes to improve digestion. The Citrata group contains the fruity and perfumed mints such Lime, Orange, Lemon ,Grapefruit and Eau-de-Cologne. These add a real zing of flavour and scent to desserts such as fresh fruit salads or to ice cold summer punches, gins, cocktails and mocktails.  For extra choice we grow both the popular Apple and Pineapple Mints (Suaveolens group), the more decorative Silver and Buddleia Mints (Longifolia group) and quite a few others to catch your interest such as Thai Mint, Banana Mint or Mojito Mint.  Mints like a damp, fertile soil and can often be accused of being a bit too rampant in the garden!  So plant in an open bottomed bucket to discourage overground runners or grow separate varieties in very large pots.  Mint is best dug and divided every couple of years or every year if containerised to prevent rusts and mildew.
