Good King Henry – Chenopodium bonus – henricus

Good King Henry – Chenopodium bonus – henricus is an ancient perennial with arrow shaped green leaves. Tiny yellow green flowers in summer. A member of the Chenopodium family along with Spinach and Beetroot.

Prefers a fertile, well drained soil in a sunny position. It is better to leave it a year after planting before harvesting so it can develop.

Medicinal and culinary properties.

There are many ways to enjoy Good King Henry. Treat the young shoots as asparagus and the leaves as spinach. It is also nutrient rich in iron, calcium and vitamins.
