Description:
Balm, Golden (Melissa officinalis aureus)
Balm, Golden – Melissa officinalis aureus
Balm, Golden – Melissa officinalis aureus is another variety of balm but with pure golden-yellow leaves.
It is a perennial with golden foliage that has a delicious lemon scent.
Plants tolerate most conditions but semi shade is better to avoid leaf scorch in summer. Cut back after flowering to encourage a second flush of fresh foliage.
A herb that has many medicinal and culinary properties. The lemon flavour and scent works well with a variety of dishes. Well known in ‘Melissa tea’ which promotes sound sleep.
Balm is a useful Bee Plant, excellent for planting around bee hives or in orchards to attract them.
We also grow regular Lemon Balm and Variegated Lemon Balm.
