Our native Valerian, it as actually quite different from the red cottage garden favourite.

A perennial plant with dark green leaves. The flesh pink flowers are attractive to insects.

It is a herb with medicinal qualities. In particular, it is known for being used as a tranquiliser. The roots are used to promote sleep and have been since ancient times. It is often found in herbal teas.
